What Volunteers Say:

A Bloomington teacher talks about her classroom volunteer:
" My first graders loved the individual attention they received. She would listen to them read, giving help when needed and always talked to them, too. In large classes the added attention is wonderful."

A woman and her teenage daughter volunteered with young learners:
"It was a great experience for spending time with my daughter and sharing a common goal of helping others."

An English as a Second Language tutor for adults:
"If I can give back a little to society, I will. I’m a people person. I run full speed all day and stay busy. What I receive from volunteering is twenty-fold to what I put in."

Another ESL tutor, Charlie, a retired university professor, likes the work of the Volunteer Connection – providing literacy tutoring and advocacy – because it is so necessary.
"This is number one on my list," he says," volunteering should be necessary."

Life Works career coach:
"All of us need help at some point in our life," says Michelle. If she would put a visual image to her belief it would be a great spiritual chain. "We are all links; you teach someone, and in turn, they teach someone else... and it goes on and on."
