Why Volunteer?

Professionals do studies each year, write countless articles—all in an attempt to answer this question. Click here to see what our volunteers say!

We’ve Got Some Good Reasons of Our Own
Here at the Volunteer Connection our volunteers have shared with us some of their favorite benefits of volunteering in our program – we hope that one of them will inspire you. You can:

  • Make a difference in a learner’s life.
  • Get involved locally.
  • Gain professional experience.
  • Explore new career areas and network.
  • Receive mileage reimbursement for seniors through RSVP.
  • Get reduced childcare through ClubKid.
  • Earn college credit.

Volunteering at the Volunteer Connection is direct service to people. You can choose to work with adults who are striving to reach the educational goals they’ve set for themselves…and being part of this progress is both exciting and rewarding. You can choose to work with children and help them in their formative years. You might support an adult learner as he/she prepares for their citizenship test or help a young student feel better about school, but the impact you’ll have is very real and very important.

More Benefits:

Community Education Classes
Every quarter that you are an active volunteer in our program, you receive a discount coupon for a Community Education class. These classes are offered in Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and Eden Prairie.

Free Child Care
Volunteer a minimum of two hours at Bloomington Schools, and receive one hour of free child care from ClubKid for the entire family.

A partnership between the Volunteer Connection and ClubKid allows you to spend a minimum of two hours volunteering while ClubKid watches your children. The offer is good only on the day of your visit, for your entire family, at either the Edina or Burnsville Location. You must pick-up a ClubKid voucher from the school office and provide it to ClubKid when you pick- up your child/ren.

In addition, $2.00 off coupons will be available to parents attending parent/teacher conferences. A minimum one hour stay is required and you must pick-up a coupon from the school office to provide to ClubKid.

Professional Experience
Volunteer experience can be used on resumes and job applications. If you are taking time to be at home with your family; thinking about a career change, or want experience in education…this is a great opportunity for you! We are happy to provide references, letters of recommendation and letters to current employers for active volunteers to acknowledge your contribution to our students.

Transportation
Mileage reimbursement is available to seniors through our partnership with RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). Please ask for details to take advantage of this offer.

The greatest reward, however, is knowing you made a difference in the life of a learner! No one would give of their time only for these reasons…we just want the opportunity to make it easier for you to volunteer with us and in some small way give back to you for your contributions.
